Combating Mask Fatigue: Breathing Guidelines
As we continue our Commitment to Safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, we offer these breathing techniques and guidelines from PN Medical. In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, we know how important wearing a mask is (whether you choose to wear a surgical mask or a cloth mask). Face coverings reduce the spray of aerosol droplets when worn over the nose and mouth. COVID-19 spreads mainly among people who are in close contact with one another or where social distancing is difficult to maintain. Improper breathing while wearing a mask can lead to headaches, dizziness, increased heart rate, anxiety, and fatigue.
Take quality breaths before and after you put on your mask, take longer and slower breaths, take mask breaks when it is safe to do so, and practice Respiratory Muscle Training exercises with a breathing device. RMT is a method where both inhaling and exhaling are trained under resistance to improve respiratory muscle strength.

Remember these tips when you are out in public spaces or wearing your mask at work for extended periods of time. For more information on proper mask coverings, visit the CDC.
